Celebrate the 4th of July Like a Local: Your Guide to Topeka's Best Independence Day Events

There's something special about celebrating the Fourth of July right here in Topeka, especially this year as our country marks its 250th birthday. Whether you're new to town or have lived here your whole life, here's where to find the food, fun, and fireworks this Independence Day.

Spirit of Kansas Festival at Lake Shawnee
This is Topeka's signature Fourth of July celebration, and it's a full day of fun. The festival includes a car show, golf tournaments, the Spirit of Kansas Blues Festival presented by The Topeka Blues Society, food and craft vendors, a water ski show, and the Capitol Federal Fireworks Display at 10 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs and sunscreen and plan to make a day of it. Collins Park Neighborhood Parade
If you love a classic small town parade feel, head to the 55th Annual Collins Park Neighborhood July 4th Parade. It's a Topeka tradition that brings neighbors together for a morning of community spirit.

Indian Woods Parade and Fireworks
Another neighborhood favorite, the Indian Woods 4th of July Parade and Fireworks Show offers a more intimate, family friendly way to celebrate close to home.

Buying Fireworks Locally
If you're planning your own backyard celebration, plenty of local stands are open this year, including Cracker Shack, Bellino Fireworks, Mission Hill Fireworks, and several others around Shawnee County. Just a friendly reminder to check Topeka's fireworks rules before you light up. The city allows consumer fireworks on July 3rd from 10am to 11pm and on July 4th from 10am to midnight, with some restrictions on where they can be discharged.

A Special Year for Kansas
2026 marks America's 250th anniversary, and Kansas is leaning into it with extra meaning behind the celebrations this year. It's a great reminder of how far our community has come, and a wonderful time to be a Topekan.
